The artist had cool work but they didn't know how to share the knowledge and while I didn't take other classes from them I get similar vibe from some of their other teachers. I couldn't keep up with the teacher, it was very chaotic, hard to follow and overall confusing. Instead, it was a "look at me click here and there BAM animation done" kinda deal. I'm not a total beginner and I knew most of the tools that they used in the class I was more interested in the design process and the reason they did things a certain way, how the workflow goes for that certain kind of project. I took a discounted masterclass in the "basic" category from MDS because I wanted to check if it's worth the money (and the masterclass seemed fun) before I sign up to a longer course. Overall, I’d be hard pressed to buy another SoM course. By which I mean so much of the course was about planning your animations that there was little time spent actually focusing on details like smoothing animation, graph editor, how to build complex animations, etc. So it felt unrealistic for real work unless you’re already at his level and can work with a client who had that kind of schedule and foresight.Ĥ) there was barely any “advanced motion methods” in it. As someone in the industry, I can say clients often don’t give a design and want to see moving content (even if just a small portion) early. Also get someone else’s beautiful designs to work with. I do not use FB for personal reasons so it felt like I was left out of the club when I paid money to use their site, not a third-partyģ) Sander who taught the course does amazing work, but I felt the majority of the class was how to spend time building an animatic. (I was not the only one who felt this way and they even give catchup weeks within the 16-week course where there’s no new assignment)Ģ) They have everything submitted through their website but also push you to share and post on Facebook. So keeping up with the workload was impossible. I could not afford, as a freelancer, to take 16 weeks off for training. And these are advanced animations so they take time. Being a professional in the industry, taking an advanced course, I expected something entirely different.ġ) there’s roughly 10 hours a week of course instruction to watch plus actually having to do the work. I took SoM Advanced Motion Methods and while I think their content is top quality, their course structure is terrible, in my opinion.
